Roma Women head coach Alessandro Spugna signs contract for 2022-23 season

Alessandro Spugna has earned a contract renewal to lead Roma Women into their first ever European campaign.

Spugna was appointed as the successor to Betty Bavagnoli last summer, as the club’s original head coach moved into a higher position away from the touchline.

After Bavagnoli had led Roma to their first ever trophy, Spugna picked up the baton and guided the club into the Champions League for the first time.

Roma impressively finished second in Serie A Femminile during his debut season in charge. What’s more, they only fell at the final hurdle when trying to defend their Coppa Italia crown.

Consequently, Roma have confirmed Spugna’s services have been retained for the 2022-23 season.

He told the club website: “I am really happy to be able to continue my journey with this club.

“I feel the support from everyone here, and for that above all I have to thank Betty Bavagnoli.

“I now have the chance to continue to work for a club with significant ambitions that wants to keep improving, to stay at the top of Italian football and begin a new adventure in the Champions League.

“Next season is going to be long and demanding, and we will need to be ready to give everything.”

Spugna has a win rate of 76.67% from his time in charge of Roma so far.
