Roma Women picked up their first win of 2022 by beating Empoli in dramatic style on Saturday.
After returning from the winter break with a Supercoppa Italiana defeat to AC Milan, Roma faced a tough task to start the second half of the Serie A Femminile season well due to the number of Covid-19 cases and injuries affecting the squad.
Indeed, they fell behind against Empoli after Chante-Mary Dompig scored in the 39th minute, giving the visitors the half-time lead.
But the last 10 minutes of the game saw Roma turn things around. First, debutant Mina Bergersen – drafted in from the youth ranks – equalised with six minutes of normal time to spare. Then, Elena Linari won it with a penalty in the sixth minute of added time.
The result sees Roma remain in second place.
