Roma are closing in on the signing of Chris Smalling, but he may not be the only defensive reinforcement to arrive before the end of the transfer window.

According to Corriere Della Sera, Roma retain an interest in Torino centre-back Armando Izzo.

Roma have been following Izzo for some time, although negotiating with Torino may be a little complicated. The defender remains under contract for four years.

However, he has been seen in Rome over the past month or so – but whether or not that is a hint of a possible transfer is unclear.

News emerged from Gianluca Di Marzio last night that Roma strike target Arkadiusz Milik has now told Napoli he wants to stay with them.

It complicates Roma’s hunt for attacking reinforcements – especially with updates elsewhere suggesting that Edin Dzeko is still on Juventus’ radar.

According to Calciomercato, Juventus have encountered difficulties in their pursuit of Luis Suarez, so have returned to Dzeko – with whom personal terms are already agreed in principle.

However, they would still have to negotiate a fee with Roma, who want €12m for their captain.

There is still a chance that Dzeko stays at Roma, but nothing is decided yet.

According to the highly-respected Alessandro Austini, Cengiz Under’s future has taken a new twist.

The Turkish winger was expected to leave Roma this summer, potentially to Napoli as part of negotiations for Arkadiusz Milik.

Following the injury to Nicolo Zaniolo, there is a chance that Roma could keep Under. Or even if not, it is unlikely he will still be used in the Milik deal.

Therefore, he could move to the Bundesliga, where Hertha Berlin are interested.

Meanwhile, Napoli’s demands for Milik have lowered to €28m – although that still may be excessive for a player in the final year of his contract.
