Roma have been mentioned as one of the interested parties in the race for Norwich City right-back Max Aarons.

The England youth international impressed in the Premier League last season before Norwich were relegated.

Aarons attracted interest from Barcelona, but could not complete a move. However, he could be given a chance elsewhere in Europe.

According to Sky Sports, Roma and AC Milan are vying for the 20-year-old and could make bids soon.

Bayern Munich have also been linked with him, while Barcelona’s interest has not faded.

Norwich would want any loan deal to include an obligation to buy.

Remember him? Ante Coric, once dubbed the next Luka Modric before making just two Serie A starts in a sole season at Roma, is set to leave the club on loan again.

After spending last season at Almeria, he is now ready to join Aris in Greece on a dry loan, according to Corriere Dello Sport.

News emerged this week that Roma want Borja Mayoral from Real Madrid as their new deputy to Dzeko.

Things appear to have taken a step forward, with Sky‘s Angelo Mangiante confirming last night that Roma have found an agreement with the striker over personal terms.

Mangiante says the deal is “very close”, with Roma potentially taking Mayoral on loan – if he first renews his contract in Madrid – with an option to buy.

Roma need another defender before the transfer window closes, and they are likely to choose from someone they already know well.

Bringing Chris Smalling back is the priority, but Manchester United are making it hard to seal a permanent deal. Therefore, Roma are looking at alternatives.

The latest option to emerge is another former Roma player, Antonio Rudiger. According to Kicker, the German defender could return to the Italian capital three years after leaving for Chelsea, where he has now fallen out of favour.

Well, after all that, it seems like Edin Dzeko is ready to commit to a sixth season at Roma – but that doesn’t mean another striker won’t arrive.

Nikola Kalinic has not arrived on a permanent basis yet, so the Giallorossi need a new backup striker. And the answer could come from the other side of Madrid.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma are interested in Borja Mayoral, a Real Madrid academy product who spent the past two seasons on loan at Levante.

The 23-year-old scored nine goals in 36 games for the La Liga side last season, but is out of contract in Madrid next summer, so could leave before the transfer window closes.

Todibo and Marcao the alternatives as new Smalling bid prepared

Roma are still yet to match Manchester United’s valuation of Chris Smalling, although Fabrizio Romano claims they will make a new bid in the forthcoming days.

If their pursuit of the Englishman hits a dead end, though, there are two alternatives.

According to Sky Sport, Barcelona’s 20-year-old defender Jean-Clair Todibo – who spent the second half of last season on loan at Schalke and is not part of Ronald Koeman’s plans – is an alternative option.

Meanwhile, Il Romanista suggest Roma are using an intermediary to try and sign Marcao from Galatasaray, who want €13m for the 24-year-old defender.

However, the report speculates that a deal could be agreed at €10m, with the player open to the move.

Dzeko U-turn?

Just as it seemed Edin Dzeko’s time at Roma was coming to an end, he could stay at the club after all.

The Bosnian striker sat out Roma’s draw with Verona (which could be changed to a 3-0 defeat due to a club administrative error, via which Amadou Diawara played without being included in the appropriate squad list) in the hopes of a move to Juventus going through.

Such an operation would depend on Roma being able to sign Arkadiusz Milik from Napoli, but that deal is becoming more complicated.

Now, Juventus have booked in a medical for Alvaro Morata, who could re-join them from Atletico Madrid.

In that event, Dzeko could stay at Roma after all.

The sporting director of Atletico Madrid has listed Roma as one of the teams interested in full-back Santiago Arias.

Arias plays on the right-hand side of defence, where Roma’s current options are Rick Karsdorp, Bruno Peres and Davide Santon.

Atleti sporting director Andrea Berta told Kicker: “We are talking to Roma, Everton and PSG for Arias, but not Bayer Leverkusen.”

Jovic the main Milik alternative

Roma’s pursuit of Arkadiusz Milik hit a stumbling block over the weekend, despite the player undergoing a medical.

Milik has not yet completed his transfer to Roma because of some outstanding monetary issues between the player and Napoli.

That left Roma without a striker for their season opener, in which they failed to score, with Juventus-linked Edin Dzeko left on the bench.

Reports then emerged that Roma would ask Napoli for a discount on Milik’s transfer fee due to the delays. However, they may have to look for alternatives.

While some have claimed keeping Dzeko could be the alternative, his absence against Verona suggested otherwise. Therefore, Calciomercato drew up a shortlist of four other targets yesterday.

Atop the list is Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic, whose move to Spain hasn’t worked out. The 22-year-old could leave them on loan with an option to buy to try and recapture the form he showed previously at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Alternatively, Roma remain interested in Olivier Giroud, Andrea Belotti and Krzysztof Piatek. However, Jovic is reportedly ahead of them on the shortlist.
