Roma have asked Manchester United about Diogo Dalot, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The Portuguese full-back, who is mainly a right-back but can play on either side, has found gametime hard to come by at Old Trafford recently.

Roma, of course, are already speaking with United about Chris Smalling, with the plan being to submit a final offer for the Englishman soon.

In those discussions, the Giallorossi also apparently asked for information about Dalot. Compatriot Paulo Fonseca would be happy to sign him.

If Roma’s last offer for Chris Smalling is unsuccessful, Tuttomercatoweb claim they could turn their attention to Ozan Kabak.

The 20-year-old has been a standout player in a struggling Schalke team, who could sell him for around €30m.

While that’s more than what Roma were willing to pay for Smalling, his younger age is presumably a factor.

Leonardo Spinazzola has started the season in fine form for Roma, but the club chose not to sign a replacement for Aleksandar Kolarov this summer.

While they may still put faith in youngster Riccardo Calafiori, there is a chance they sign someone with more experience to compete with Spinazzola.

According to Teleradiostereo, Inter have offered Roma the chance to sign Kwadwo Asamoah. Now aged 31, the former Juventus left-back has fallen down the pecking order at San Siro, with injuries and competition for places restricting him to just eight Serie A appearances last season.

Jovic overtakes Mayoral in striker hunt

Roma seemed all set to sign Borja Mayoral as their new backup striker, but there has been a late twist.

According to Alessandro Austini and Filippo Biafora of Il Tempo – undoubtedly the two most reliable sources for Roma news – Real Madrid now want to keep Mayoral. However, they have offered a different striker to the Lupi.

With Madrid keeping Mayoral, they now want to loan out Luka Jovic, in order for the once-prolific Serbian striker to regain his form.

And Roma could be the ones to benefit. They are expected to give their response by the end of the day in case they have to beat Milan and Inter to his signature.

The main obstacle would be Jovic’s €4.5m salary, but Real could subsidise part of that.

Biafora and Austini also back up Matteo De Santis of La Stampa‘s claims that an intermediary had offered Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette to Roma recently, before finding out that the Giallorossi cannot afford him.

The same report from Austini and Biafora mentioned above also suggests interest from the Premier League in Roma defender Roger Ibanez.

The Brazilian has impressed since joining from Atalanta in January, and it appears his form has not gone unnoticed.

Leicester, searching for a defensive reinforcement before the transfer deadline, have made a proposal worth just under €30m. However, Roma turned it down.

It comes after Checco Oddo Casano of Rete Sport claimed Tottenham had also made an enquiry about Ibanez, as a potential alternative to their main target Milan Skriniar. They were willing to put around €25m on the table.

It seems as if Ibanez is happy to stay in the Italian capital, though.

Mirko Antonucci’s future seems destined to be away from Roma. According to various sources, including Alfredo Pedulla of SportItalia, Serie B side Salernitana are close to acquiring him on loan.

The winger will join up with the Serie B outfit for a full season to gain experience, having failed to make an impression in previous loan spells at Vitoria Setubal and Pescara.

Roma are still in the running for Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira, according to his entourage.

Torreira emerged as a midfield target for the Giallorossi earlier in the summer, amid talk of a potential swap deal with Arsenal for Amadou Diawara.

The Uruguayan midfielder then seemed to be on the verge of a move to Atlético Madrid after a reunion with Marco Giampaolo at Torino fell through.

But according to Tele Radio Stereo, Torreira’s entourage still feel Roma is an option for him before the transfer deadline.

Diawara’s agent, meanwhile, has asked for clarity about the Guinean’s role.

Borja Mayoral could arrive in Rome on Tuesday as a deal with Real Madrid nears completion.

Mayoral is set to become the new vice-Dzeko, once he extends his contract with Real and joins Roma on loan with an option to buy.

While Roma are haggling over the value of that option, the parties are coming to a conclusion in their negotiations, and the striker could even be in Italy tomorrow, claim Corriere Dello Sport.
