Roma sign Samuel Dahl to complete left-back department

Roma have signed Samuel Dahl from Djurgardens to compete with Angelino at left-back.

After releasing Leonardo Spinazzola, Roma had a gap to fill at left-back, and the decision they have made seems to suggest Angelino will be first choice in his position next season after making his own move from RB Leipzig permanent earlier this summer.

Indeed, in Dahl, Roma have invested in a young prospect who will likely serve as a backup option to start with, but has enough potential to have earned a long-term deal in the Italian capital.

The 21-year-old arrives from Djurgardens in his native Sweden, where he made 37 appearances after joining from Orebro 12 months ago. Dahl also earned his senior international debut during that timeframe.

Now he has embarked on a new challenge in Italy, becoming Roma’s new number 26.

Giallorossi Yorkshire verdict

Little is known among Roma fans of Dahl, so judgement will mainly be reserved until he kicks a ball in the club’s colours.

It will be refreshing, though, for Roma to have two left-footed left-backs for the first time in around six years.

Angelino will likely remain the first choice to start with, and he will need to use that platform to step up his level after a decent, but not amazing first six months. Keeping him absolutely made sense for the price he was available for, but at the time it wasn’t known if he’d be the first choice or reserve.

Now, the competition for the left-back role will be interesting to witness as the season progresses and Dahl (hopefully) develops.

Nice first name, anyway.
