Riccardo Calafiori has left Roma to join Genoa on loan for the rest of the season.
Calafiori came through the youth ranks at Roma, overcoming serious injuries to reach the senior side. He made his first-team debut on the final day of the 2019-20 Serie A season.
He made eight appearances the following term, in which he also scored a stunning first goal for the club. However, the left-back has struggled to build any momentum.
Even with Leonardo Spinazzola out injured for the first half of this season, chances have been at a premium for Calafiori, who has been behind Matias Vina in the pecking order.
Now, with Spinazzola approaching his return, there is even less space for the 19-year-old Calafiori. He will therefore continue his development elsewhere.
There is no option to buy in the loan deal, but it remains to be seen how much of a future Calafiori – who is under contract until 2025 – will have at Roma.
