Paloma Lazaro leaves Roma Women after being their original attacking upgrade

Roma Women have confirmed the departure of their third leading scorer of all time, Paloma Lazaro.

Lazaro joined Roma from Fiorentina ahead of their third season in Serie A Femminile and went on to hit the ground running, scoring in both of her first appearances for the club.

She concluded her debut campaign with 11 goals from 26 games, culminating in Roma winning the Coppa Italia. Lazaro scored in the quarter-final and semi-final on that route.

Then, in 2021-22, she improved upon the previous season’s tally with 13 goals from 29 games, matching the record for the highest-scoring season by a Roma Women player at the time. She led the way both for goals and appearances among the squad that season.

However, following the acquisition of Valentina Giacinti in the summer of 2022, Lazaro has no longer been the focal point of Roma’s attack. Hence, she has now departed for Parma, who also have ex-Roma forwards Valeria Pirone and Marija Banusic in their squad.

But it should not be forgotten that Lazaro upgraded Roma’s attack in a similar way to how Giacinti has since at the time of her arrival. Only Annamaria Serturini and Andressa Alves had ever scored more goals for Roma Women than Lazaro at the time of her exit.

In total, the Spanish striker scored 26 goals from 75 games for Roma, having become arguably their first reliable centre-forward and cemented her reputation. With that in mind, and as a winner of the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana, she will leave a legacy behind at the club.
