Roma Women have completed the signing of Japanese defender Moeka Minami, who becomes the first Asian player to join the setup.
A left-footed centre-back, Minami is venturing outside Japan for the first time in her club career after previously playing for Urawa Red Diamonds.
Signing a contract with Roma until 2024, she is described as “an extremely accomplished player” by the club’s Head of Women’s Football, Betty Bavagnoli.
Minami herself said via the club website: “This is my first adventure abroad.
“I am feeling so many emotions right now, but above all I am just so excited and delighted to be playing for AS Roma.
“I will do my absolute best to try and help the team be successful.”
A full Japan international, the 23-year-old Minami will be competing with the likes of Elena Linari, Carina Wenninger, Beata Kollmats and Elisa Bartoli for a place in the backline.
