Roma v Zorya Luhansk preview: Decisive Conference League clash

It’s practically make or break for Roma in the Europa Conference League on Thursday when they host Zorya Luhansk.

Progress in the group stage has been halted over the last two matchdays for Roma, who came unstuck against Bodo/Glimt. Now, as they seek qualification for the knockout stages, they are taking on Zorya again.

The Ukrainian outfit lost 3-0 to Roma when the sides first met in September. Due to results since, though, the visitors would overtake Jose Mourinho’s men with a win at Stadio Olimpico. On the flipside, a home win will be enough for Roma’s name to be in the hat for the next round.

Therefore, with only one matchday left after this, Roma will need to put in a big performance to avoid elimination.

Mourinho will thus be relying on regular players, confirming starts for Rui Patricio, Nicolo Zaniolo and Tammy Abraham. He was unable to commit to whether Roma would use a back three or back four; the possible returns of left-backs Matias Vina and Riccardo Calafiori may alter his ideas.

After getting back to winning ways at the weekend against Genoa, the target is now to translate that positivity to Europe and aim to reach the knockout phase.

The game kicks off at 8pm UK time and will be live on the BT Sport ESPN channel.
