The first trophy of 2024 is up for grabs on Sunday when Roma Women and Juventus – the two most competitive clubs in women’s football in Italy – compete for the Supercoppa Italiana.
Reigning Serie A Femminile champions Roma take on the side that beat them (via a late goal) in the final of the Coppa Italia last season.
It is a repeat of the Supercoppa match-up from last season, which Roma won after a penalty shootout.
Alessandro Spugna’s side are now aiming to retain the trophy as they face Juventus for the second time this season (the first was a 3-1 win in the league).
Both teams go into this game on the back of defeats in their last fixtures of 2023, although a lot of time has passed since Roma lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, and even longer since Sampdoria beat Juventus in Serie A to help the Giallorosse open up a six-point lead at the top.
While the league standings can give some kind of indication about how the game might flow, when these two rivals face off, it is practically guaranteed to be close.
Roma Women v Juventus team news
In terms of team news, Emilie Haavi has made it into the Roma squad after being 50/50 in preparation; whether the winger is in contention to start is another matter, but some predicted lineups online have included her. Zara Kramzar, as anticipated, is unavailable, but most key players are there. Captain Elisa Bartoli should make her return to the starting XI, for example.
As for Juventus, one familiar face will be former Giallorosse forward Lindsey Thomas. Rome-born midfielder and Italy international Arianna Caruso is also among their ranks, while some of their danger players need no introductions.
The game, which will take place at Cremonese’s men’s team’s stadium, is scheduled for a 2:15pm UK time kick-off on Sunday.
It will be available to watch live on DAZN’s YouTube channel for free here.
