Roma Women will have to navigate their return to Serie A Femminile action with a depleted squad when they host Empoli on Saturday.
After returning from the winter break with a Supercoppa Italiana defeat to AC Milan, Roma are now hoping to pick up the pace again in the league, where they reached second place by the halfway stage.
However, what would normally look like a routine game against Empoli is complicated by the fact that there are several Covid-19 cases among the Roma squad.
Goalkeeper Camelia Ceasar, full-back Angelica Soffia, midfielder Vanessa Bernauer, summer signing Joyce Borini, attacking midfielder Andressa Alves, forward Valeria Pirone and winger Benedetta Glionna are among those missing from the squad list. Captain Elisa Bartoli is also sidelined with a muscle injury.
There could be a debut for recent goalkeeper addition Emma Lind. Outfield, some players may have to adapt their roles, while some youngsters like Eleonora Pacioni, Elena Battistini and Giada Tarantino have been drafted in.
Roma will be hoping for a repeat of the opening day’s reverse fixture, which they won 3-0 thanks to a trilogy of own goals.
But with numbers limited, it’s hard to know exactly what to expect.
The game kicks off at 11:30am UK time.
