Roma will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat under Jose Mourinho when they return to action against Udinese on Thursday.
After losing to Verona at the weekend, the task is for Roma to get back on track ahead of the upcoming Derby Della Capitale – but there is one hurdle to overcome before then.
Udinese are the next opponents on Roma’s schedule. Both meetings between the two sides last season ended as Roma wins with clean sheets, 1-0 away and 3-0 at home.
Stadio Olimpico is the venue for this latest clash, just days before it plays host to the first derby of the season. But Mourinho and his men can think solely of the first challenge ahead.
In that regard, the coach has confirmed three of his starters for the match. Riccardo Calafiori will continue to cover at left-back in place of the unavailable Matias Vina, while Mourinho will stick with his trusted midfield pairing of Jordan Veretout and Bryan Cristante.
In front of that duo, Lorenzo Pellegrini will be seeking to score in a third consecutive match for the first time in his Roma career.
Mourinho is not underestimating Udinese by any means, despite their most recent result being a 4-0 loss to Napoli. Luca Gotti’s side have also taken points off (an admittedly out of sorts) Juventus this season, so are capable of competing – and Roma are aware of it.
Nevertheless, the Giallorossi are aiming for a fifth consecutive home Serie A win, which would be the first time they have achieved such a feat since 2017.
The game kicks off at 7:45pm UK time and will be live on BT Sport 1.
