Empoli Ladies v Roma Women preview: Last game before international break

Roma Women take on Empoli Ladies on Saturday afternoon in their third game of the Serie A Femminile season.

After drawing with Sassuolo in their season opener, Roma picked up their first win of the season by beating Pink Bari last week.

Now, in their only game of September before the international break, they travel to Empoli.

Roma faced Empoli in one of their pre-season friendlies, but competitive action is a different challenge. If they can do what they did in that game and beat their opponents, it would be their first away win of the season.

Roma beat Empoli in both meetings last season, but their opponents have started the season well. Empoli thrashed promoted side San Marino 10-0 in the first game of the campaign, before champions Juventus needed a last-minute winner to beat them last week.

Hence, it should be an interesting challenge for Roma, who themselves are in good form. The Giallorosse’s first two results of the season mean they have extended their unbeaten run which began in the previous campaign to a club-record eight games.

Having had to bide their time against Bari last week, Betty Bavagnoli knows her side will have to be patient again to continue their run.

The coach told asroma.com: “I’m expecting the players to show patience. We need to try to control the game and make sure we play our style – but above all we need to be balanced and try and limit the errors we make, and try to ensure we restrict Empoli in the areas they are strong as much as possible.

“So, yes, I’m expecting a game where we will need to show a lot of patience and maturity.”

The game kicks off at 4:45pm UK time.
