Inter Milan v Roma preview: Lupi look for first San Siro win in two years

Roma will be looking to get the better of Antonio Conte when they take on league leaders Inter Milan.

The former Italy manager rejected the chance to manage Roma this summer, before agreeing to coach Inter – and the two sides will come face to face for the first time since then on Friday.

Both sides have had positive starts to the season under new managers, with Conte guiding Inter to the top of Serie A, and Paulo Fonseca overseeing Roma’s steady resurgence to being top four contenders again.

The showdown at San Siro will be a real test for Roma to see what level they are at. With Edin Dzeko in the squad after coming close to joining Inter in the summer, and ex-Nerazzurri midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo returning from a suspension, there are opportunities for players to make statements against a strong side.

Zaniolo could take Cengiz Under’s place on the wing after the Turk’s disappointing display against Verona, with the opposite flank set to be occupied by either Diego Perotti or Henrikh Mkhitaryan. For all the team news, check out the video below.

Two former Manchester United teammates will come up against each other in one of the game’s key battles, with Roma’s in-form defender Chris Smalling tasked with stopping ex-companion Romelu Lukaku – with the Belgian striker having already reached 10 goals in his first Serie A season.

Roma have not won at San Siro, against either Inter or AC Milan, since October 2017, so they will be prepared for a difficult game. The stadium has been a happy hunting ground for Dzeko, though, with the Bosnian contributing to more goals there than any other away arena during his time in Italy.

The game, which kicks off at 7:45pm UK time, will be shown live on Premier Sports 1.
