Elisa Bartoli left an indelible mark during her inspirational six years of service to Roma.
A supporter of the club from birth, Bartoli became Roma Women’s first captain after joining the newly founded team in 2018.
Her spell with the Giallorosse has now come to an end after six seasons, the last two of which saw her lift the Scudetto.
While it is time for Roma to move on from Bartoli on the field, what she achieved on it will last long in the memory.
Here are a handful of records she holds at the time of her departure, some of which may soon be beaten and others that won’t for a while.
Joint-most starts (141)
Bartoli led Roma out for their first official game and it was the start of her distinguished service to the club. Usually one of the first names on the team sheet – not just because she was captain, but because of how important she was to the team’s structure – Bartoli started 141 matches in all competitions for Roma Women, including all of their league matches in the inaugural season.
This record, though, is the one that will likely fall soonest for her. Bartoli is tied with Manuela Giugliano on 141 starts and her likely successor as captain should set her own new record when the 2024-25 season starts.
Most Serie A starts (99)
Bartoli left Roma one start short of a milestone in the league. She started 99 Serie A Femminile matches for the club, three more than Giugliano at the time of her exit.
Most Coppa Italia starts (24)
The Coppa Italia was the first honour Bartoli won with Roma and although it was sometimes an opportunity to rotate players, she remained a regular starter in the competition.
24 of Bartoli’s starts were in the cup, two more than Giugliano and Elena Linari.
Joint-most Supercoppa apps (4)
Roma have played in the Supercoppa Italiana four times (two semi-final matches when the competition involved four teams and two finals when it reverted to a simple head-to-head match) and Bartoli is one of four players to have been involved in all of those games. The others are Giugliano, Camelia Ceasar and Annamaria Serturini.
Highest-scoring defender (18)
Rarely restricted by her starting position of full-back, Bartoli scored 18 goals for Roma. No defender has yet scored more goals for the club than her; Linari is the next challenger on 14 after catching up significantly in the 2023-24 season.
Most minutes of Serie A gametime
While Bartoli is not the Roma player with the most appearances (new Inter teammate Serturini still is), she is the player to have clocked up the most gametime for the club.
In Serie A, she played in 8908 minutes of football for Roma, which if used as a tiebreaker with Giugliano (8160 minutes) for the most-used Giallorosse player in the league would put her on top.
Joint-most honours (5)
As someone who has been there since the start of the Roma journey, Bartoli has been able to lift all five pieces of silverware the club have earned: first the Coppa Italia under Betty Bavagnoli, then two Scudetti, a Supercoppa and another Coppa under Alessandro Spugna.
The only other players to be involved in all five trophy wins – to varying degrees – were Ceasar, Linari, Giugliano, Giada Greggi and Claudia Ciccotti.
Most games as captain (141)
Obviously. Bartoli has been Roma’s captain for six years, so whenever she has started a game, she has worn the armband.
Her leadership influence will be one of the hardest things for Roma to replace and it could take at least another six years for someone to surpass this record, depending on how long the next occupant of the captaincy stays.
Bartoli has led Roma with pride, honour and courage.
